Christmas here so Zune?

So as you might guess from the title I have two things I want to say. First, wow Christmas got here fast! This was a crazy year for me in a lot of ways and I’m kind of sad to see it go. I’ve become so accustomed to changing where I am living or what I am doing every couple of months that it is going to be kind of strange to do one thing for a while. Well, at least working at Mount Hermon is something I enjoy!

Anyway, the other thing I wanted to mention is that I took the plunge and bought a Microsoft Zune today. I decided I’m tired of trying to get my sad little Zen Micro working and I really don’t like iTunes so I decided I’d go with the Zune over the iPod Video and Zen Vision:m. So far I am glad with my choice. The screen is beautiful and plays video very nicely. You have to convert everything to the right format before syncing it to the Zune but it doesn’t take too long. Speaking of syncing, this thing is like lightning when it comes to uploading music. Seriously, like whole albums in 30 seconds. I am kind of curious to see when and how different hacks or firmware upgrades will take better advantage of the on-board wifi but I think it is pretty exciting that it has the hardware at least. That is the other reason I went with the Zune, it might not be as smooth or pretty as an iPod but I think it incorporates more of where the future market is headed, when it comes to the technology. The only downside is that the Zune Marketplace has a lot of catching up to do before it is equal to the library of iTunes, but I don’t doubt it will get there eventually, Microsoft is too big and too set on competing to let it wallow in mediocrity. On the upside, though, when it comes to podcasts, because the Zune just looks for new media in your My Music folder it automatically syncs any downloaded shows so you can still use iTunes as an agrigator. As much as I don’t like iTunes for the layout and how it plays music, it kicks ass when it comes to podcasts. Anyway, better get to sleep now, I have four church services to go to tomorrow! Merry Christmas!
