updates, ho!

So I hope no one who follows this blog terribly minds, but I find it far easier to post occasional longer updates in more of a digest form rather than posting every random thought that pops into my head in real time. Think of it like a filter that leaves you with just the best stuff. :)

on being a responsible adult. . .

Yes, I’m going to whine about this. I realize it’s extra good that I’m waiting to buy things until I have more than enough money in this economy rather than just charging them but it gets really frustrating sometimes. There isn’t anything real huge I’m passing up, it’s more the random $50 computer upgrade or musical instrument. I realize I’m going to be really glad I waiting when I finally do pick up a 5D Mk II, it’s just getting a little frustrating having to wait.

on Ken Griffey, jr. . .

Currently there is a debate going on in the blogosphere over whether or not it is a good idea for the Mariners to sign Griffey to a swan song contract of 1 year to let him retire as a Mariner. Recognizing that it could result in a horrible disaster that sours Griffey’s last Seattle experience rather than leaving everyone with a memory of “The Kid,” but it just feels so right. Griffey represents what is so great in baseball. When healthy (and reports are that he’s healthier now than he has been in years), he is electric. No his play won’t be, but his smile, he demeanor, his place in history, and that sweet, sweet swing. He is one of the few players of the steroid era who remains completely untainted. I truly believe he will be in the 95%+ of voting when he is eligible for the Hall of Fame.  I look forward to the day he enters Cooperstown in a Mariner jersey. The time is right, the price is right, lets do this Z.

on Twitter. . .

If you want to know the real reason I’ve been posting less in the last few months, it’s Twitter. I don’t post here because a lot of the ideas that pop into my head end up there. I get faster response and spend more time interacting with people. Twitter has become a must for following developing news stories also. Being able to take the pulse of several thousand people in real time is amazing! I was watching the white Bentley car chase last night in LA and following the Twitter stream at the same time, conversing with people about what we were seeing. It adds a whole new social interaction level to news watching

on Push. . .

I went and saw the movie Push on my day off yesterday. As always, I agree’d by and large with the review offered on the Totally Rad Show, though I probably liked it a little more than they did. There are some really cool things they do with powers in this movie that I haven’t seen other people do before. One of the coolest things was the way that every “class” has obvious weaknesses. There is no one all powerful group. Pushers can only make you do things if you are looking at them. Sniffers, Shifters, Wipers, etc seem to have no real offensive abilities. Watchers can see the future but it can change and shift and they don’t always get clear pictures. Movers seem to be top of the food chain to me, when well trained they are able to deflect bullets, and can add telekinetic force to their punches and kicks. The ability to make objects float though made me wonder why they can’t fly, since they would just be lifting themselves. Anyway, back to the story. There is a few plot holes and twists you have to kind of roll with but there are enough cool twists and things they set up, I would really like to see this made into 2 or 3 movies. I thought the acting was sufficiently up to par too.

on wrapping up. . .

So that’s about it for now, I’m sure I’ll chew something over for the next few days and come back with another big post. I’m working on one about my Uganda trip right now since it was now a year ago. I want to write down a few thoughts about the ways things have changed in the last year. Anyway, I’ll get to that in a few days.
