Hi, my name is Jonathan Assink.
I’m a creative thinker who uses the power of story to help others.
I have a MA in International Development from Northwest University in Kirkland, WA. Before that I received a BA in Political Science, with minors in Geopolitics and Sociology, from Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, WA.
I currently spend my days as a barista at the Green Bean Coffeehouse in the Greenwood neighborhood of Seattle. I work hard to make the best drinks I can for some of the greatest customers in town. I recently concluded an internship as a blogger and editor for the Jolkona Foundation. I wrote about things like the Millennium Development Goals for them. Before that, I interned at World Concern, an international relief and development organization in Shoreline, WA.
In the past I worked as the Family Camp Registrar for three years at the Mount Hermon Camp and Conference Center just outside of Santa Cruz, CA. While there I provided top notch customer service to over 10,000 guests per year. Before that, I pent two years working in Admissions at Seattle Pacific.
In my free time I like to write and take photos. I shoot Canon and currently have a 5D Mk II. My photos have been published in magazines and I have also worked as a school and family portrait photographer. My real passion is documentary photography. Most of what I write goes on my blog where I muse about art, theology and justice issues.
I have also been actively involved with the crafting and curating of the worship experience at my previous church in Santa Cruz, Vintage Faith Church, and my current church in Seattle, Sanctuary Christian Reformed Church. I have presented talks on theology and justice, and lead for several months a bi-weekly art and theology discussion group.
My geeky adventures have lead me to be an early adopter of sites and services like Twitter, Facebook and Google+, and an avid user of WordPress–though I have started coming around on Posterous. I do most of my writing in Microsoft Word, but I have increasingly used all of Google’s productivity offerings for everything from writing blog post drafts to doing my personal budgeting. While my professional background may not reflect it, I have an eye for good design both in print and on the web. I also try to stay current on best practices related to advertising and marketing. I believe information should be organized in a way that is both engaging and entertaining for users.
